Linus, Leonardo and Alwyn at the Cape Argus
Pick n Pay Cycle Tour award ceremony.
Danny en Vera Verschaeve, an electrician and property clerk from Belgium realised their dream when they founded Flandria in February 1976.
Hailing from cycle mad Belgium, they identified the opportunity and had the vision to establish Flandria to fulfil the Stellenbosch region’s cycle needs. From humble beginnings of limited stocks of bicycles and general hardware, Flandria grew steadliy requiring a change of premises in 1982 to its present location.
Their entrepreneurial spirit prevailed and 1985 saw the addition of a locksmith and LPG (liquid petroleum gas) supply service. Flandria built an enviable reputation based on service excellence.
In March 2008, Alwyn de Kock, a popular face at Flandria with 15 years experience and Linus van Onselen, a well known cyclist teamed up to buy the business from Danny and Vera.
In July 2013 Linus, as initially planned five years ago, sold his interest in Flandria to his son Leonardo a well-respected face at Flandria with 9 years experience. Linus is now employed as financial manager at Flandria.
Alwyn and Leonardo together with their staff are actively building on Flandria’s mottos,
“Committed to quality service” and “Expertise you can trust”.
